What Problem We are Solving

Problem
The most expensive and devastating part of surgery is post-operative complications, which cost 3-5 times more than normal cases. 36% of brain tumor patients develop some functional deficits after surgery. Many of these complications are avoidable. During surgery, the current surgical navigation systems cannot inform neurosurgeons important functional structures of the brain and its spatial relationship with the surgical target. To make it worse, all medical images are in 2D, while neurosurgeons have to interpret these 2D images to imagine the 3D shapes of patient anatomy to operate patients. As a result, brain surgeries are difficult and arduous. Any misinterpretation could lead to surgical complications and patient functional deficits.

About Us

About Us
EagleView Imaging, Inc. (“EagleView”), a Michigan company, was founded in 2017 with a mission to transform surgery through innovation. Our first product offers a solution for neurosurgeons to identify important functional structures of the brain during surgery in 3D augmented reality (AR). It allows them to better preserve critical functional structures of the brain during surgery and reduce patients’ complications. To date, the company has secured pilot partnership with Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) and Spectrum Health, both in Michigan, to conduct clinical studies. Our recent study with HFHS demonstrated that our 3D AR system can significantly improve neurosurgeon’s surgical planning. The company already generated early revenue from early adopters as a resident training tool prior to FDA clearance. Our paying customers include Henry Ford Hospital and Spectrum Health, both in Michigan. University of Michigan Neurosurgery department and Wayne State University ENT department also provided letters of intent to serve as our clinical partners/pilot sites and purchase our system. Since its registration, the company has raised $700,000 from angel investors and $120,000 from government grant. In addition, we have also confirmed the FDA 510K Class 2 clearance pathway. We also obtained one PCT patent and applied two USA and one Chinese patents. The company is led by a group of experienced entrepreneurs, outstanding scientists, and world leading neurosurgeons. The company CEO Weidong Chen, MBA, is a serial entrepreneur with decades experience in medical device and medical robotics. The company’s founder, Dr. Zhifeng Kou, is a professor of bioengineering and radiology at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Kou is an expert in medical imaging and artificial intelligence with track record of NIH and DoD funding. This project is a natural commercialization of his work. The company’s co-founder and board director is Francis Glorie who has been involved with the company since its inception and mentored the company management team. Francis has previously held senior executive positions in 6 successful start-ups and exits. Our acting chief medical officer, Dr. Mark Rosenblum, is the former chair of Neurosurgery of Henry Ford Hospital and also a world leader in neurosurgery. Our chief technological officer Dr. Kaiming Li is an expert in medical image processing, artificial intelligence and computer graphics. Our executive VP Dr. Sidong Huang, MD, is a radiologist by train with decades experience in sales and marketing in Asia with GE, Philips and Stryker. We are trying to raise $3M seed fund to support our FDA 510K clearance, sales and marketing and further development.

Competitive Advantage

Quote
In contrast with our competitors’ head-mount displays or helmet devices, we offer a desktop solution that provides users simple non-intrusive 3D glasses for visualization and a lightweight precise pointing device. This allows them to seamlessly integrate 3D planning and navigation into current workflow and daily routine.

In addition, all of our competing devices require a service engineer to preprocess the data for neurosurgeons before they use it. We have developed fully automated features to allow neurosurgeons just simply click one button, and the system will do the rest automatically. This makes the work flow much easier and simpler and also reduce our cost.
