There has never been a greater need for learning achievement as the skills for the workforce of tomorrow require greater and greater literacy, comprehension, and perseverance. In the US alone, 37% of 4th graders score below proficiency in reading and comprehension and 54% of Americans 16 and older read below the 6th grade level and 32 million adults cannot read at all. This lack of reading proficiency lowers academic and professional success, productivity and overall life outcomes.

Living Popups is the brainchild of Cheryl Bayer and Jamie Dixon, both of whom are accomplished in their core fields of expertise but who came together, creating an enormously impactfully outcome –LP Bookspace. Living Popups is a cutting-edge digital technology and entertainment company that creates exceptional content utilizing augmented reality to enhance a users' experiences. Living Popups' Hollywood quality productions, learning pedagogy and utilization of empathy and impact, unite with its augmented reality innovation and real-time data to create magical and pioneering experiences for all users be they educators, learners or general consumers.

Living Popups officially launched LP Bookspace (LPB) at the American Library Association convention in June of 2022 and its been quite a year.  LPB is current being used with students in 10 states and over 15 different school districts. 

LP Bookspace and the LP Educator Dashboard have been the subject of a white paper studying the use of augmented reality to increase reading comprehension and interest.  In addition, 94.7% of students responding to a survey about LP Bookspace said that reading with our "popups" helped them to understand what they were reading.

LP won a grant from the Citrin Foundation to pilot our books, app and resources in New York City where classrooms will be participating in research on the efficacy of the product.

Educators, librarians, re-skilling professionals and publishers all see the incredible value of the tool when they see LP Bookspace in action.

Living Popups business model is a SAAS+ model.  

We built LP Bookspace, a free app that enables users to engage with "popup" characters when they scan images from the AR enabled book or text they are reading.  To demonstrate the proof of concept, LP has created a library of 14 Augmented Reality enhanced titles of required readers (from Boxcar Children to Shakespeare) which can be purchased in school/library sets, via amazon or your local bookstore.

The SAAS element of our business has four parts:
  1. The LP Educator Dashboard
  2. The LP Creator Tool
  3. The LP Creator Dashboard
  4. The LP Market Place

The LP Educator Dashboard: Parents, educators, schools and school districts are able to subscribe to the LP Educator Dashboard which allows them to easily track student progress, comprehension and engagement.  Annual  subscriptions to the dashboard are available on a sliding scale from $250 for a single student or classroom to $10,000+ for an entire district.  The LP Educator Dashboard easily integrates with Clever and Google Classroom, the two most frequently used digital learning platforms.

The LP Creator Tool: Living Popups developed technology to build our current array of popups using cutting edge technology and analytics paired with humor, purpose and empathy.  In our next phase of development, we will be bringing this capability to creators around the world to empower educators, publishers, professional development organizations and even students themselves the ability to create engaging popups via a subscription to the LP Creator Tool.  Annual subscriptions to the tool will be based on the number of popups a creator would like to create ranging from $250 annual licensing fee to $12,000+.  The utilization of the creator tool will not only build revenue for LP but it will also increase the number of uses of LP Bookspace and in turn the number of licenses to the Educators Dashboard.

The LP Creator Dashboard: To further support the creators, LP will offer the LP Creator Dashboard License which will enable creators to monitor how users are engaging with their popups.  This data is incredibly valuable to creators from educators to publishers, providing information on engagement, reader completion, satisfaction, number of readers per copy and more.  Demand for this data is exponential.  Subscription fees for the Creator Dashboard will be annual and range from $250 to $15k,000+.

The LP Marketplace: The next element in our plan is to make the LP Creator Tool creations available for sale in the LP Marketplace, a digital storefront of vetted AR experienced focused on learning.  Creators will be able to list their creations on the LP Marketplace (living within the LP Bookspace App).  LP will collect fees for content vetting as well as a small percentage of every sale.  An example of a model currently being used by educators around the world is Teachers Pay Teachers

Go-To Market Strategy

Business Strategy
LP Bookspace is going to market with sales to K-12 schools and libraries as key initial customers for our solution.  The packages of books plus technology allows schools and libraries a familiar, budget friendly access point to trial the product.  As engagement grows and we build the LP Creator tool, we will expand to publishing, higher ed and the re-skilling markets.

For schools and libraries we are working with independent sales representatives on a commission only basis who have specialized relationships with the school district and library purchasers in their markets.   LP is also attending trade shows such as American Library Association annual conference with over 5,000 attendees and CUE (Computer Using Educators) Conference to showcase our products.  

Organic social media influence is also a significant push for LP with users and our own channel promoting the value of LP Bookspace. 

We are also pursuing our SAM registration as well as being listed as a Women Owned Small Business to support government contracts.

Living Popups' greatest competitive advantage is the combination of educational expertise and award winning, Hollywood level entertainment that supercharges the learning experience with real-world level graphics, storytelling, humor and engagement: the same tools (by the same person!) that created television classics like the Simpsons and That Family Guy.  We take the anxiety learners have about books and texts they need to read/understand and use the technology they love (and already have!) to create a feeling of support, success and meaningful connection, three of the most important keys to learning as well as a successful product! 

While there are other players that are using AR in education, LP is unique in our pedagogical approach, our quality, our data collection and ability to build confidence for learners.
