Description

The Innovation Space is an innovation ecosystem and science-startup accelerator based in Wilmington, Delaware that supports early-stage companies in life sciences, clean tech, and advanced materials. Through programs including Science Inc.™ Accelerator, The First Fund™ investment program, and community resources such as lab and office space, expert mentorship, and investor introductions, it helps technology-driven startups accelerate commercialization, build traction, and position for future investment.

Eligibility

Startups developing science-driven innovations, particularly in life sciences, clean tech, and advanced materials.
• Companies should demonstrate a defined technology or scientific innovation, some early validation, and a business model, often with a baseline of early funding (~$50k raised) for the accelerator track.
• Founders should be willing to locate at The Innovation Space to access The First Fund™ investment and lab resources. 

Process

Application Submission: Startups apply to the Science Inc.™ Accelerator cohort. 

Selection for Accelerator: Accepted founders enter a 14-week hybrid accelerator with sector-focused content and mentoring. 

Participation in Programming: Founders receive coaching, milestone planning, and exposure to investors and partners. 

Investor Demo Day / Networking: The program culminates in pitch opportunities and ecosystem exposure. 

Optional Investment via The First Fund™: Startups may apply for up to $240,000 in support through a convertible note, subject to residency requirements at The Innovation Space.

What an Applicant can Obtain

Up to $240,000 in capital support through The First Fund™ (convertible note with typical investment terms including discount, valuation cap, interest, etc.).
Access to lab space, equipment, office space, and support services as part of the funding and residency package.
14-week accelerator program participation via Science Inc.™ with mentorship and sector-focused guidance.
Networking and investor exposure through curated events and Demo Days.
Community of scientific founders, coaches, and expert advisors to help validate technology and advance milestones.
