Launch Alaska

By connecting market-ready tech startups with partners and project opportunities in Alaska, we can help accelerate the energy transition.

Anchorage, AK, USA

Description

Launch Alaska is a non-profit climate and technology accelerator based in Anchorage, Alaska, USA that helps founders and companies — especially in energy, transportation, and industrial innovationnavigate Alaska’s unique market landscape, forge local partnerships, and move technology toward real deployment rather than operate as a traditional venture capital firm that writes standardized equity-for-cash checks like many U.S. startup accelerators.

Specific Funding Stage
Pre-Seed / Early Stage Support: Works with early-stage and later-stage climate-tech, energy, and sustainability startups to connect them with project partners, deployment opportunities, and ecosystem networks.
Growth / Deployment: Supports companies ready to deploy real infrastructure and pilot projects, leveraging Alaska’s unique environment to validate solutions (e.g., microgrids, EV tech, energy systems).

Investment Amount and Percentage Equity (Company-Level)
Direct Equity Taken:
• Launch Alaska does not publicly operate on a uniform “$X for Y% equity” model as traditional VC-linked accelerators do. Its core Tech Deployment Track program does not include a published, fixed investment for a fixed equity share in all participants.
• Historically, older descriptions of its accelerator model (from archived sources) indicated it provided modest investments (e.g., ~$25,000 for ~6% equity in earlier cohorts), but current official materials do not list that as an active, standard accelerator term anymore.
• Instead, Launch Alaska focuses on deployment support, partnership facilitation, and project networking to help companies secure external project funding or customer contracts (e.g., with utilities, energy partners) rather than owning part of companies itself.

Equity Structure:
• There is no blanket equity percentage published that Launch Alaska requires for participation in its Tech Deployment Track accelerator or portfolio support.
• Any equity positions or ownership dilution typically occur in subsequent financing rounds involving third-party investors (angels, VC, or project funders) and are negotiated directly with those investors, not set by Launch Alaska.
