Mossy Ventures

Building new Angel Investors and stronger startup ecosystems around the world

Renton, WA, USA

Description

Mossy Ventures is a Seattle, WA–based investment firm that focuses on building angel investing capacity and supporting early-stage startup funding through structured angel investment programs and conferences rather than acting as a traditional venture capital firm. It operates globally but is rooted in the Seattle ecosystem and runs hands-on programs designed to educate investors and fund early-stage companies.
Pre-Seed / Seed: Core focus on pre-seed and very early-stage companies participating in programs like the Seattle Angel Conference.
Series A: Indirect involvement through follow-on support or investor ecosystem maturation; Mossy itself typically funds earlier stages via its program outputs.
Angel Program Investment: Selected program finalists receive funding around ~$200K through the Angel Conference model.
Invests broadly (sector-agnostic) with emphasis on growth potential and early traction, providing startups exposure to angel investors and ecosystem partners.
Founders typically engage by applying to Mossy’s signature programs (Seattle Angel Conference, APIS Health Angels, Startup Investor Accelerator, Trans-Atlantic Angel Conference) or through referrals from ecosystem stakeholders.
Mossy Ventures also hosts workshops, educational events, and ecosystem meetups aimed at connecting founders with emerging angel investors and improving fundraising readiness.

Eligibility

Geography: Priority on Seattle and programs across regions where Mossy runs angel investment cohorts, but also open to global participation in select programs (e.g., Trans-Atlantic), reflecting its ecosystem expansion goals.
Profile: Pre-Seed and Seed startups seeking early capital and investor engagement, often with some evidence of traction or prototype.
Team: Founders with demonstrable commitment, clarity of vision, and willingness to engage deeply with investors through the structured process.

Process

Initial Intake & Screening: Startups apply to a program cohort where materials (pitch, team, early traction) are reviewed for relevance and readiness.
Program Selection & Workshops: Companies participate in a series of educational sessions and pitch preparation activities with investors and mentors.
Investor Conference & Finalist Selection: Startups present to a cohort of participating angel investors during the conference, and finalists are selected for investment.
Deal Structuring & Investment: Winning startups receive funding (often via convertible notes or tailored early-stage instruments) at the end of the program; terms vary by company.

What an Applicant can Obtain

Strategic Capital: Access to early funding (~$200K) through Mossy’s angel investment programs, with the goal of building investor confidence and future funding avenues.
Network & Mentorship: Interaction with local and global angel investors, workshops on diligence and deal-making, and introductions to broader investor communities built through Mossy’s alumni network.
Follow-on Support: Alumni and participating investors often help companies connect to additional capital and angel groups beyond the initial program investment.
