Description

Life Sciences Greenhouse of Central Pennsylvania (LSGPA), also operating under Life Sciences Greenhouse Investments (LSGI), is a specialized evergreen venture fund headquartered in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Founded in 2001, it is one of three regional greenhouses in the state dedicated to strengthening the life sciences ecosystem through capital and operational expertise.
  • Target Stages: Primarily focuses on Pre-Seed, Seed, and Series A funding.
  • Gap Bridge: It is designed to bridge the funding "chasm" between pre-seed stages and Series B rounds.
  • Series B and Beyond: While focused on early stages, the fund has participated in Series B rounds (e.g., Indigo Biosciences) and seen portfolio companies progress to Series D.
  • Method: Founders can engage through the LSG Investments "Get Funded" portal.
  • Initial Inquiry: Applicants typically start with a screening process where their business plan, milestones, and technology are reviewed.
  • Special Grants: Early-stage founders still in the "germination stage" can be invited to apply for Business Opportunity Grants, which fund market studies and technical/legal consulting.
  • Rolling Intake: LSGPA reviews applications and invests on an ongoing basis throughout 2026.
  • Ecosystem Events: Related opportunities often occur during the Life Sciences Future meeting, which is scheduled for September 30 – October 1, 2026, in King of Prussia, PA.

Eligibility

  • Geography: Strictly limited to companies based in or significantly impacting Pennsylvania, with a core focus on Central Pennsylvania.
  • Sectors: Core activity is in Drug Discovery, Diagnostics, Medical Devices, and Health IT.
  • Business Profile: Targets "young" companies tackling large-scale healthcare challenges or product-commercialization constraints.

Process

  1. Intake & Screening: Initial review of technical and commercial viability.
  2. Due Diligence: A venture-level, intensive deep-dive into the business plan and technology. LSGPA typically incurs these costs prior to making a formal investment.
  3. Active Partnership: Once funded, LSGPA provides ongoing support by serving as a director or board observer and offering management advice.
  4. Evergreen Reinvestment: As an evergreen fund, returns from successful exits are reinvested into the next generation of startups.

What an Applicant can Obtain

  • Direct Capital: Funding to help bring life-changing technologies to market.
  • Operational Expertise: Access to a curated network for scientific advice and business development.
  • Market Signal: Because of their rigorous due diligence, funding from LSGPA often serves as a signal of investability to other venture capitalists.
