Newton, MA, USA

Description

Launchpad Venture Group is a premier Boston-based angel investment network that remains the most active seed-stage funder in the New England region as of 2026. Since its founding in 2001, the group has invested over $125 million in more than 150 startups, specializing in leading priced equity raises.
  • Seed & Early Stage: The group primarily focuses on "first institutional" rounds for companies that have moved past the initial concept phase.
  • Maturity: Startups should ideally have a functional Minimum Viable Product (MVP) or prototype and early evidence of customer traction.
  • Method: Founders apply through the Launchpad Venture Group portal or via the Gust platform.
  • Ongoing Cycle: Catalyst events run 10 months a year in 2026.
  • Recommended Timing: Founders are encouraged to submit applications at least several weeks before any scheduled event. Selected companies are typically notified 10 days prior to a pitch date.

Eligibility

  • Geography: Exclusively New England. Startups must be headquartered in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont.
  • Sectors: Core focus on High Tech (Enterprise Software, Applied AI, Marketplaces) and Life Sciences (Diagnostics, Healthcare IT, Small Medical Devices).
  • Exclusions: They do not invest in food/drink, drug discovery, direct-to-consumer (DTC), crypto, or gambling.

Process

  • Catalyst Pitch Event: Launchpad hosts a "Catalyst" event 10 months a year. This is a casual, 5-minute virtual pitch (via Zoom) followed by Q&A, intended for relationship building and feedback.
  • Scouting & Diligence: High-potential candidates are assigned a "scouting team" of 4–5 members with relevant expertise. This team evaluates the startup's readiness for a full presentation to the 150+ members of the network.

What an Applicant can Obtain

  • Strategic Capital: Participation in priced equity rounds typically ranging from $500,000 to $2,000,000.
  • Expert Mentorship: Access to a network of talented professionals who often join boards as observers or advisors.
  • Syndication: Direct connectivity to other Northeast angel groups and regional VCs to fill larger funding rounds.
