Description

VANTEC Angel Network is the longest-standing angel investor community in British Columbia, Canada. Founded in 1999, it connects technology entrepreneurs with a network of over 150 active angel investors and early-stage funds. 
  • Pre-Seed & Seed: VANTEC is often the first investor community where nascent startups pitch.
  • Target Stage: They specialize in helping companies building initial momentum to secure early investors before moving toward venture capital rounds. 
  • Submission Method: Founders apply directly through the Apply to Pitch portal on the VANTEC website.
    • Pitch Deck: A professional investor deck is mandatory.
    • 90-Second Preview: All selected companies get a short introductory pitch.
    • 5-Minute Full Pitch: Reserved for startups actively raising capital with incorporated entities and full-time founders. 
  • VANTEC holds monthly pitch nights typically on the first Wednesday of the month.

Eligibility

  • Geography: Startups must be headquartered in British Columbia.
  • Sector: Industry-agnostic, though they have a strong focus on technology-driven ventures.
  • Maturity: Startups should have at least a working prototype (alpha), clickable mock-up, or concept video, along with evidence of customer validation. 

Process

  1. Application & Review: Founders submit their startup plan for internal fit assessment.
  2. Intro Call: A brief discussion regarding timelines and expectations.
  3. Pitch Readiness: Selected founders work with VANTEC to refine their deck and data room through workshops and dry runs.
  4. Monthly Pitch Night: Founders present to an audience of 30–40 angels (in-person or online).
  5. Due Diligence: Following initial interest, "deep-dive" sessions are organized to answer detailed investor questions.

  • Expert Feedback: Pitch coaching and feedback from experienced investors during pre-screening and workshops.
