Healthcare Equity Angels

Angel network backing diverse, impact-driven healthcare and biotech startups.

Coral Gables, FL, USA

Description

Healthcare Equity Angels (HEA) is a South Florida-based angel investment syndicate founded in 2021. It is dedicated to "leveling the playing field" for underrepresented founders in the healthcare and biotechnology sectors.
  • Pre-Seed & Seed: HEA focuses exclusively on the earliest institutional funding stages.
  • Subsequent Support: The group provides ongoing guidance for later rounds to help founders optimize follow-on financing.
  • Inquiry Method: While HEA does not host a public, cohort-based application, founders typically engage the network through their official website or professional referrals from Renown accelerators and partner syndicates.
  • Thematic Focus: They seek "change makers" leveraging advanced technology to solve complex global health challenges, such as chronic disease, disability, and elder care.
  • HIMSS26: Related opportunities for healthcare startups to pitch to angels and strategic investors are scheduled for the HIMSS26 conference in Las Vegas from March 9–12, 2026.
  • Investment Amount: While total deal sizes vary, recent investments include participating in rounds for companies like LumiThera (February 2025) and Expper Technologies.

Eligibility

  • Founder Profile: Significant commitment to supporting immigrant, international, women, and minority founders.
  • Sector Focus: Health and Biotechnology, including AI/Machine Learning, Gene Therapy, Virtual/Telehealth, Clinical Robotics, and 3D Printing.
  • Geography: Headquartered in Coral Gables, Florida, but invests in startups globally.

Process

  1. Selection: The syndicate prioritizes founders traditionally underrepresented due to gender, race, or ethnicity.
  2. Due Diligence: A network of senior industry executives conducts a deep-dive review of scientific, strategic, and commercial viability.
  3. Active Oversight: Unlike many syndicates, HEA members typically get very involved in company oversight and day-to-day advisory post-investment.
