Halcyon Impact Angel Network

Global impact-driven angel network funding startups solving social and environmental challenges.

Washington, DC, USA

Description

Halcyon Impact Angel Network is the investment arm of Halcyon, a Washington, D.C.-based non-profit dedicated to supporting social entrepreneurs. It is one of the first angel groups in the U.S. exclusively focused on impact investing, connecting accredited investors with early-stage social enterprises that address global challenges.
  • Seed & Series A: The network primarily targets ventures that have moved past the "lab" phase and are ready for commercial scale.
  • Post-Revenue Preference: While not strictly required for all sectors, they prioritize companies with a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and evidence of commercial traction or significant social impact metrics.
  • Method: Founders typically engage through the Halcyon website or by applying to the Halcyon Fellowship programs, which serve as the primary pipeline for the Angel Network.
  • Materials: A pitch deck, an executive summary, and a detailed Impact Statement (how the company addresses UN Sustainable Development Goals) are required.
  • Thematic Focus: For 2026, the network is prioritizing Climate-Tech, Health Equity, and Diversified Fintech.

Eligibility

  • Impact Alignment: The venture must have a core mission to solve a social or environmental problem (B-Corp status or similar is a plus).
  • Founder Profile: Strong focus on underrepresented founders (women, people of color, and those from the global south).
  • Geography: Primarily United States (with a focus on D.C. and Opportunity Zones), but also increasingly open to international ventures through their global fellowships.

Process

  1. Pipeline Curation: Most companies are sourced from Halcyon’s own fellowship cohorts (e.g., the Climate, Health, or Opportunity Intensives).
  2. Screening: A dedicated committee reviews ventures for both financial scalability and "impact lock"—ensuring the social mission cannot be easily decoupled from the business model.
  3. Pitch Forums: Selected founders pitch to the network of 50+ impact-focused accredited investors during quarterly showcase events.
  4. Due Diligence: Interested members form a team to conduct a 4–8 week deep dive into the technology, financials, and social impact data.
  5. Funding: Individual members make independent investment decisions, often aggregated into a single vehicle for the cap table.

What an Applicant can Obtain

  1. Patient Capital: Access to investors who understand the "double bottom line" and have longer-than-average exit horizons.
  2. Strategic Mentorship: Direct coaching from successful social entrepreneurs and policy experts in the D.C. ecosystem.
  3. Impact Validation: Third-party verification and guidance on measuring and reporting social impact metrics.
  4. Ecosystem Access: Direct links to Halcyon’s corporate partners (e.g., Amazon Web Services, Deloitte) and policy leaders.
