Description

Canyon Angels is an angel investment network headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. Affiliated with Grand Canyon University (GCU), it connects accredited investors with high-growth startups while integrating a student-led due diligence process.
  • Traction Required: Companies should ideally have a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and early evidence of market traction (e.g., initial revenue, letters of intent, or pilot programs).
  • Method: Founders apply through the Canyon Angels application portal, which is hosted on the Dealum platform.
  • Requirements: A complete submission includes a pitch deck, executive summary, financial projections, and a detailed "Use of Funds" breakdown.
  • Criteria: They seek "scalable" technology or service businesses with the potential for a 10x return.

Eligibility

  • Geography: Strong preference for companies in Arizona and the Southwest, though they consider deals nationwide.
  • Sectors: Industry-agnostic, with strong historical activity in SaaS, MedTech, Consumer Goods, and Fintech.
  • Capital Seek: Typically targets companies raising between $500,000 and $2,000,000.

Process

The network follows a rigorous vetting cycle that heavily involves GCU students:

  1. Online Screening: Applications are reviewed by a screening committee.
  2. Student Due Diligence: Selected companies are assigned to a team of GCU student analysts who perform market research and financial vetting.
  3. Member Presentation: The top companies pitch to the full network of 70+ accredited investors during monthly meetings.
  4. Investment: Individual members make independent decisions to commit capital, which is typically aggregated for the cap table.

What an Applicant can Obtain

  1. Direct Capital: Aggregated investment from a network of seasoned individual angels.
  2. Strategic Mentorship: Access to a diverse membership including former CEOs, academic leaders, and industry specialists.
  3. Student Analytical Support: Detailed due diligence reports prepared by trained student analysts that can be used for future fundraising.
  4. Syndication: Introductions to other Arizona-based angel groups (like Arizona Tech Investors) to fill larger rounds.
