Big Idea Ventures (BIV) is a leading global venture capital firm and accelerator focused on food technology, alternative proteins, and the bio-economy. In 2026, it continues to scale startups through its Global Food Innovation Fund II (GFIF II) and specialized rural development funds. 
  • Primary Stage: Seed and Early-stage startups.
  • Venture Studio: They also engage in pre-seed company creation, recruiting management teams to support innovations from inception.
  • Growth Stage: Follow-on investments are available for top-performing companies reaching later rounds. 

Startups apply via a centralized online portal for either the accelerator program or direct investment. 
  • Requirements: A detailed pitch deck is required alongside information on the company’s vision and investment needs.
  • Rolling Basis: Applications are reviewed continuously, allowing for immediate investment offers before official cohort start dates. 

Eligibility

  • Sectors: Alternative proteins (plant-based, cell-based, fermentation), sustainable ingredients, fats, and new crops.
  • Product Status: Startups must have at least a Minimum Viable Product (MVP).
  • Impact: A strong focus on companies addressing global food security and climate change.

Process

The BIV accelerator is a rigorous 5-month program
  1. Screening: Applications are scored based on market potential, business model, and "Big Idea" quality.
  2. Live Video Interviews: Shortlisted companies undergo multiple rounds of interviews with team members.
  3. Acceleration: Selected teams receive side-by-side support in New York, Paris, or Singapore.
  4. Hands-on Support: Includes weekly strategy meetings, food science technical support, and fundraising coaching.
  5. Demo Day: The program concludes with an in-person pitch event to over 100 investors.
