Description

The Baylor Angel Network (BAN) is an investor network and educational center within Baylor University's Hankamer School of Business. It connects high-growth startups with accredited investors while providing a unique hands-on learning experience for student analysts.Companies that have a functional Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and initial market traction or revenue. 

  • Method: Founders must apply via the BAN Online Application Portal (hosted on the Dealum platform).
  • Fees: BAN does not charge any application or presentation fees.
  • Requirements: A complete application includes a pitch deck, business plan, and detailed financials. 

Eligibility

  • Sector: Sector-agnostic; they invest in diverse industries including SaaS, MedTech, Consumer Goods, and Energy.
  • A&M/University Connection: While they have a strong Baylor affinity, there is no requirement for the founder to be a Baylor alumnus.
  • Geography: Primarily targets companies in Texas, though they consider outlier deals nationwide. 

Process

The network follows a rigorous student-led and member-vetted cycle:

  • Student Screening: Student analysts perform the initial review and due diligence under the guidance of the Executive Director.
  • Screening Committee: Selected startups present to a committee of experienced angel members.
  • Member Meeting: Finalists are invited to pitch to the full network of 100+ members at quarterly meetings (held in Waco, Dallas, Austin, or Houston).
  • Due Diligence: If interest is high, a deeper dive is conducted by members and students.
  • Investment: Individual members make independent investment decisions.

  • Capital: Access to a network that has invested over $30 million in more than 100 companies.
  • Mentorship: Strategic guidance from members who are often successful Baylor alumni and industry leaders.
  • Student Support: Access to high-caliber student analysts who can assist with market research and data gathering during the due diligence phase.
