Lexington, KY, USA

Description

Awesome Inc is a prominent startup incubator and technology hub based in Lexington, Kentucky. It serves as a central pillar for the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem through its 5-across pitch competition and its intensive Fellowship program.

The program primarily targets Pre-seed and Seed stage startups.

  • Target Stage: Companies typically range from "Idea Phase" to early "Paying Customers."
  • Goal: Moving startups from a validated prototype to being "venture-ready" for institutional capital.

Startups can engage through two primary tracks:

  • The Fellowship: A year-long program for high-growth startups. The application requires a pitch deck and a detailed business overview submitted via the Awesome Inc Fellowship page.
  • 5-Across: A hyper-local, high-energy pitch competition for very early ideas. Applications are short and focus on the core "problem/solution" fit.

5-Across: Events occur roughly every two months. The 2026 cycle begins in February 2026.
  • Fellowship: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, but new cohorts typically kick off in the first half of the year.

Eligibility

  • Geography: Strong preference for companies based in or willing to relocate to Kentucky (specifically Central Kentucky).
  • Sector: Sector-agnostic, but heavily favors Software, SaaS, and Technology-enabled businesses.
  • Traction: For the Fellowship, companies should ideally have an MVP or early customer validation.

Process

  1. Online Application: Founders submit business details on a rolling basis.
  2. Screening: Selected teams are interviewed by the Awesome Inc team and mentors.
  3. The Fellowship (12 Months): Includes a curriculum focused on sales, marketing, and fundraising, plus access to a network of over 50 mentors.
  4. 5-Across Pitch: Five companies pitch for 5 minutes each at a bi-monthly event, with the winner decided by a panel of judges.
  5. Demo Day: Fellowship companies participate in a final showcase to connect with regional investors.

What an Applicant can Obtain

  • Capital: 5-Across winners receive a $500 cash prize (non-dilutive). Fellowship members gain access to the Kentucky-based Kentucky Enterprise Fund and regional angel groups.
  • Resources: Over $50,000 in perks, including AWS credits, HubSpot discounts, and free office space at the Lexington incubator.
  • Mentorship: Direct coaching from successful Kentucky entrepreneurs and professional service providers (legal, accounting).
