Description

  1. Client Intake Form: The first step for all services is completing an Online Intake Application to connect with the entrepreneurial services team.
  2. Specialized Applications: Separate applications exist for the Entrepreneur Boot Camp and direct Investment Funding

Eligibility

  • Geography: Primarily targets companies located in the City of Ann Arbor or City of Ypsilanti; capital programs extend to the broader Michigan region.
  • Sector: Must be a technology-driven company in innovation-based industries such as mobility, software, life sciences, or advanced manufacturing.
  • Financials: Typically limits services to early-stage startups with less than $5 million in annual revenue or capital raised.
  • Traction: For funding, companies must have a completed Minimum Viable Product (MVP) tested against customers. 

Process

  1. Submission: Founders submit their idea via the intake form.
  2. Discovery Call: A SPARK team member follows up to discuss milestones and appropriate resources.
  3. Bootcamp/Acceleration: Startups may enter the 8-week Entrepreneur Boot Camp to validate their business model.
  4. Due Diligence: Companies seeking capital through the SPARK Capital fund undergo a rigorous review by venture partners and experts. 

What an Applicant can Obtain

  • Capital: Access to the SPARK Capital fund and the Michigan Angel Fund.
  • Grants: Up to $75,000 in business acceleration grants to expedite milestones.
  • Coaching: One-on-one mentorship from experienced Entrepreneurs-in-Residence.
  • Workspace: Coworking space at SPARK Central (Ann Arbor) or SPARK East (Ypsilanti).
