Description

Alumshares is a technology-enabled investment platform—rather than a traditional cohort-based accelerator—that connects alumni of research institutions with investment opportunities at their alma maters. We utilize our expertise, the power of your alumni network, and technology to filter through the noise. Our investment team of PhDs, MDs, and MBAs focus on identifying promising small and medium-sized opportunities with significant growth potential. Less than 1% of evaluated opportunities are approved to be on the Alumshares platform.

Eligibility

Startups: Must be university-related companies (alumni-founded or university technology transfer) with defensible business models.
Investors: Limited to accredited investors residing in the United States. Access to specific deals is typically limited to alumni with the same university affiliation as the investment opportunity.

Process

Sourcing: An internal team of PhDs, MDs, and MBAs reviews hundreds of university-related opportunities per year.

Validation: Only companies with strong founding teams, groundbreaking products, and demonstrable traction are approved; less than 1% of evaluated deals make it to the platform.

Syndication: For each deal, Alumshares creates a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV)—typically an LLC—through which accredited alumni investors can purchase shares.

Tracking: Once a round closes, progress is tracked via the platform until a future liquidity event occurs.
