Startups apply via an online form detailing their technology, team, and market potential. 434 is a "hometown" accelerator that prioritizes high-potential companies where core team members already live and work in or around Charlottesville.
Eligibility
Location: Primarily for startups based in the Charlottesville/Central Virginia area.
Sector: Technology-driven businesses in software, hardware, materials science, or biomedical applications.
Development Stage: Must have a functional product beyond the pre-MVP stage (exceptions are made for high-tech or biotech projects with long regulatory paths).
Process
Long-Format Support: Unlike typical 3-month programs, 434 provides support for at least nine months, typically running from September through May.
Active Programming: Includes monthly dinners, workshops, check-ins, and bespoke guidance from domain experts.
Mentorship: Each team is matched with one or more local founders or experts to ground them in the regional ecosystem.
What an Applicant can Obtain
Grant Funding: Opportunity to apply for up to $20,000 in grant funding.
In-Kind Resources: Access to over $50,000 in additional technical and business resources.
Workspace: Free dedicated co-working space on Charlottesville's Downtown Mall.
Talent: Support for securing student projects or interns.
